Priest leaves Wisconsin diocese after live streaming voter fraud exorcisms

A priest has cut ties with his Roman Catholic diocese in Wisconsin after live streaming exorcisms to root out what he claimed was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Rev. John Zuhlsdorf, who was described as a “freelancer” at The Diocese of Madison, left to pursue other opportunities, the diocese said in a statement earlier this month.

Zuhlsdorf and the diocese mutually decided on the departure, the statement said.

“The Bishop of Madison is grateful to the Reverend Zuhlsdorf for his faithful support of the diocese’s seminarians and priests, thanks him for his many years of steadfast ministry serving the diocese, and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement said.

The priest had claimed that permission to conduct the exorcisms was granted by Madison Bishop Donald Hying.

But Hying said he approved exorcisms for “alleviation from the scourge of the coronavirus pandemic,” not for “partisan political activity.”
